Trombone to Whistle?

I just have to say that after perusing this message board many times, I was most certainly inspired to post a reply to this thread…I started out on trombone in 4th grade, and then picked up whistling through revolutionary war reenacting about 8 years ago. I love playing my whistles SO MUCH (although I haven’t found anyone here at school to play with =(, and I am the proud owner of a brand new Copeland D…I didn’t know anyone else started on trombone too. What fun!

Me again.

A group called “Double Play” recently put on a show at my school. It is a tuba/flute duet with some amazing arrangements. Very, very cool.

So, why not low brass and whistle? I’ve been trying to get some of the basic ornamentations on my euphonium…so far, no luck.

p.s. Side topic: A good euph can go for $3000+, a tuba for even more. I’ve never heard of a case of “TOAD.” Besides price, portability would get to be a bit of a problem…

My wife and I were just talking about that… She’s grateful that whistles aren’t as expensive as tubas! (besides - one tuba in the house is enough!) Although, a nice Yamaha F Tuba would be sweet to play along with a whistle…

Anyone ever hear of a trombone being played in sessions? Other than to annoy people? Would it work well with reels/jigs/ etc with any other more traditional instruments? Maybe with a buzz mute?

I occasionally play trombone church music with other brass instruments - haven’t considered it for IRTRAD before…
