Its always a challenge for me getting all the buttons to fall in line when reassembling my anglos after making adjustments (specifically to my MIDI instrument). Has anyone come up with any tricks to get the buttons to behave themselves?
well, i would say that i try to catch as many buttons possible at first go, and then slowly move the top around until i catch more of the buttons, and then all of the buttons. i dont know what i would do with your carroll–i have never put back together a carroll, or any other high end concertina. ask wally or greg, they would be able to tell you how they do it.
Its the Wakker MIDI that I find the most challenging to get the buttons to line up during reassembly, they are pretty much floating on the ends of the levers. I don’t have much reason to open the Carroll, but the MIDI instrument needs minor tweaks now and then to optimize the switch closure.
I position the end plate over the (vertical) buttons, then use a toothpick to maneuver each button into alignment. If I place gentle pressure on the buttons with the end plate, and depress them one at a time using the toothpick, they move where I want to without shifting (usually) while I’m dealing with their neighbours.
That’s pretty much what I’m doing, getting them aligned best as I can and using a chopstick to manipulate the ones that stray.
I just remember a while back a thread where someone thanked someone for a trick regarding button alignment on reassembly, would love to find out what they came up with.
