Saw the tribute last night in somerville. Wonderful, warm feeling. Great music. Funny, touching. I never saw Johnny play, but there were moments when I felt him standing behind the players, smiling. Susan McKewon and Kevin Burke were very strong. Seamus Egan missed the show with a tooth problem but should make the next few. The slow songs and aires were especially good. As Phil Cunningham said, we’re never as happy as when we’re really miserable. The Dark Land in the 2nd set may have been the most moving.
Darn, I didn’t even hear about that until it was too late. Doesn’t matter much though as concerts (or anything else for that matter) are not in my budget right now.
Yeah…what dwinterfield said! Too bad about Seamus but a good show nevertheless. Phil played a beautiful slow air he wrote called (surprise, surprise ) Johnny as part of the encore.
