I was, just now, playing Teehan’s Reel with great power and blazing speed (for an Idahoan) when my visiting niece interrupted to say:
“That doesn’t even look like a flute. It looks like a recorder.”
My own 13 kids, having been properly trained, immediatley went into action…elevating my feet, fetching me a brown paper bag to breathe into and calling 911. Thank heaven we’ve had drills!
But I’m left wondering what the heck it is they’re teaching kids in those Missouri public schools?!

Shore ain’t teachin’ 'em meeusic, son.
Well, I think I’ve gotten the matter resolved.
I had the little cherub sit in a chair while I played a variety of tunes on the flute and then the recorder. She was resistant at first but, with a bit of persuasion, (and half a roll or so of duck tape) she managed to sit through it. Fortuneately, paramedics were already on the way from the kids’ original call (I’m not that great on the recorder).
Anyhoo, I don’t think we’ll be having anymore confusion.

Doc - if she’s from Kansas City, MO the public schools are only “marginally accredited” at this time. I’m not sure St. Louis’ school disctrict is even accredited at this time. No matter what, I don’t think either district could afford a recorder, so I’d start asking her parents what they do in their spare time at home…she sounds too young to have been exposed to a recorder already - some parents need to learn that certain things are not for the easily impressionable.
