Transcontinental band

I gave the link in my](http://chiffboard.mati.ca/viewtopic.php?t=63997%22%3Emy) own thread a few days ago, but got no response from there, so here it is again:

Guitarists are especially welcome

Might be hard with live sessions, but for recording tracks together. Why not?
I play guitar and mandolin (although I’m better at the first, having played it about 10 years) and have played whistle 1-2 months now.

I’m interested.

Of course, I have necessary equipment for recording. Portable studio, mic, Cubase for editing and instrument. No accoustic environment though, I play in my room.

I’ll add a flute.

Welcome to the band. :stuck_out_tongue:

The Transcontinental Tradders.

Some more information:

We want the transcontinental cooperation to be more of an open virtual platform for recording together and sharing ideas, rather than a group of a select few people. Therefore, even more players are more than welcome, and the cooperation is free. If you don’t want to contribute to one tune, don’t. If you want to, then do. No one is expecting you to be active with each tune.

We have a separate google groups account for this, with a forum and section for uploading files.

The concept is simply: make connections, discuss, and make music.
If more people are interested, contact me, breqwas or Carey.

The “make music” part is technically really easy. You download tracks in MP3 format from the group files and use whatever tools you have to play them and record yourself. Upload your track and/or your mix as an MP3. I find the free software Audacity (google it) works well for me.

So don’t let the computer side of it intimidate you. If you have questions just ask.

This sounds really interesting! Are you intending this to be for original compositions or mostly trad covers?

I could probably contribute some guitar (acoustic or electric) if you’re still short of people. I’ve got a few fingerpicking acoustic tunes I’ve written that might sound cool with other instruments (or even singing if anyone wants to write lyrics) over the top.

Let me know.

Chrisoff, I’m already a guitarist… and another one is welcome too. :stuck_out_tongue:
I play rhythm mostly, so a fingerpicker is a nice addition.

We play ITM, but if someone wants to do something else that other people find interesting, then it’s of course okay.

Cool, can you send me the details for the google groups page?

I can do rythym or fingerpicking, or even shred some lead guitar over the top if you like

I don’t have administrator status. Give me your mail and I’ll ask another guy to send permission.
Of course you could play the electric guitar. But as I said we are ITM-focused. I can’t guarantee that people are willing to join in on such a project, but there’s no policy against it.

What a great project!

I’d join in if I wasn’t so crap.

You should give it a go, what’s the harm? If you don’t like what you’ve recorded then don’t send it back to the group.

Especially accordionists, fiddlers and pipers are wanted!

Thanks buddhu.
We don’t care if you are crap (which I don’t think you are seeing you’re kind of an oldie on the forum).
We aim to have fun, just like in a regular session. And of course, if someone is a worse player than the others, then he will have a chance to learn and practice.

That’s pretty spot-on.
We upload different mixes of tunes, and you don’t have to add to them if you don’t want to. You can just play along.
And if you want guitar backup for one tune, then contact one of the guitarists and ask if he is interested, for example.
As this project grows, I will look into other possibilities for storage of files, maybe an FTP. Google Groups is restricted to 100 mb.

I’m happy to move the “archive” files to my web site to make room for the newer, active stuff. They will still be available for people to download and add to if they want. I think they should be available for download to anyone who would like to play along with them at home, without even needing to join.
