Hi,
I have been an occasional lurker here for many years, but this is my first post, which is about forthcoming whistle classes for beginners and more experienced whistlers in the Edinburgh area. Tutored by experienced musicians Mark Dunlop (Mailinky) and Gordon Turnbull, the 12 classes run from Wednesday 11 September.
Full details can be found on the Scots Music Group web site: http://www.scotsmusic.org/classes/subjects/whistle/ but here’s an overview:
Trad Whistle 1:
—————————
Suitable for beginners with a little experience on the instrument.
Learn to play the penny whistle at a gentle encouraging pace, focusing on basic technique and building up a repertoire of simple popular traditional tunes, playing mostly by ear. Low whistles are also welcome.
You should have a D whistle to bring to the class.
As this is a new class, it will run subject to sufficient numbers.
Wednesday at 7-9pm Boroughmuir School
tutor: Mark Dunlop - terms: term 1, term 2, term 3

Trad Whistle 2
————————-
For players who are already comfortable with the basics of the whistle, looking at more complex fingering, and consolidating a repertoire of popular tunes. The class will also look at developing ensemble playing and basic harmonies appropriate to the style of tune being played.
Suitable for improving beginners and returners playing whistles and low whistles in D. Wooden and silver flutes also welcome.
