I’m a music student in Cardiff looking to uncover fellow whistlers and/or a folk scene in the area. Anyone else here from Wales?

I grew up in South Wales and spent a lot of my life in Cardiff. There always was a lively Trad scene, and I believe there still is. Try and find a folk club somewhere as a start, I would say. Maybe try and find BBC Wales presenter Frank Hennessy, who has always been one of the most encouraging I’ve ever met in folk music. Wonderful guy. Also try and check out the folk magazine Taplas and, if you can, find out where Keith Hudson is these days. He doesn’t edit that magazine any more, but he is a wealth of knowledge and information on folk music and is absolutely tireless in support of folk music in Wales. If you Google Keith Hudson and Taplas in one search, you’ll find him.
