OK - This is a major confession here, but I’m a Dink Smallwood junkie. I downloaded this freeware game searching for a “noble knight” game for my son (his life revolves around bagpipes and noble knights…should I start worrying now or later?).
So, I just realized 3 hours had passed, and I’m going to be really tired at work tommorow!
Anyway, the download is big, and I think you need to hit the Swedish mirror site to get the download to work, but here it is:
Never heard of it, but I suspect I will be one soon (downloading…23.8 MB for the curious). Unless you really need a mouse to use it, 'cos I’m on a laptop.
I am, however, a HUGE fan of the Commander Keen series and also “Castle of the Winds”…can’t beat the early 90’s for pixellated single-disk really addictive adventure games!
I killed him too… then later found it’s more amusing when you let him live (so he quips/quacks at you, “Bite me.”) What can I say … save that I’m easily amused. He makes me daydream longingly of duck confit…Peking crispy duck..duck a l’orange…
I can’t seem to pick up the red potion that wretched pygmy wizard gives Dink at the beginning, though. I seem to pick it up in the room, but when I check my inventory, it is simply not there. Tried it three times with the same result. I’ve a feeling this will give trouble later on. Is that normal? Any of you mavens have any idea why, or how to fix it? I’d hate to have loaded all 23 MB of this thing and then have to dump it!
I had the same issue - I think my inventory was full of stuff like those nuts. If you kill enough small things, you’ll get to the second level, and you can push aside a rock that hides the cave with the monster in it (it’s against a cliff) so you can prove to the wizard you’re worthy of magic…
Now, I’m in the darklands and can’t figure out how to easily kill those darn trolls!
