Tony McManus is (*#&$(#&($# awesome. I’ve had the pleasure to hear him in concert three times and stay up playing tunes with all night at a friend’s house. He is a mindblowingly good musician and a super nice guy. I didn’t know he is living in Canada now. He was trying to get a greencard for the US for some time.
You’re lucky to have him near you.

Tony MacManus is an awesome player. I have a L’Arrivee D09 guitar, the same (I think) as the one he uses on a couple of tracks on his first solo album, and his sounds just so much better than mine. 
If you haven’t heard his work on the Linn Records complete Robert Bruns set (13 CDs, though he isn’t on all of them), then you should hear him: as well as a brilliant soloist, he’s a marvellous accompanist.
(incidentally, I use mostly open G tuning, though sometimes I’ll shift to DAGAD.)
