Does anyone know if the Tommy Reck recording “Stone In The Field” is available on CD or any other recordings by him?
I have the recording he did on D&C vol1. Wonderful piping!

Some fabulous playing from Tommy Reck and also Leo Rowsome in particular.
Patrick.
Not to mention Seamus Ennis’s dad with the Fingal Trio.
Tommy Reck also contributed 3 tracks to the old Sean O’Riada 3 LP set “Our Musical Heritage”. Miss McLeods/ The Dogs Among the Bushes, The Lament for Staker Wallace and Gillan’s Apples/ The Fairy Reel. I think Tommy had recorded it specially for RTE, so the date must have been early 60s, as the programme was first broadcast July to October 1962.
Ben, drop me a line if you want a copy of these tracks, the LP has long been out of print and I have no qualms about bootlegging out of print stuff and it’s less than 10 minutes long in total.

There’s also a home recording of Tommy Reck made around 1960, possibly by Sean Reid. It has never been commercially released, but copies of it have made the rounds among many pipers. Ask around and you’ll probably find someone you know who has it and can make you a copy. It’s fantastic stuff, even with the baby crying in the background.
