Some very nice piping here from Tommy Kearney, recorded in 1966, 45 years ago. There are many other recordings of Tommy on this site ![]()

Aren’t they the same cache of Reg Hall recordings that were used for the Master Pipers CD?
“Aren’t they the same cache of Reg Hall recordings that were used for the Master Pipers CD?” Mr. Gumby.
Yes Peter, After having a listen I believe they are. I was mislead at first by the different recording dates given for “The flogging reel” in the CD liner notes, 1965 and 2002. The British Library has the dates as 1966-12-07 and 1979-06-13 for the two versions. I assume the British Library dates are the more accurate. The BL archive also has these 7 tracks not on the Master pipers CD, Garden of Daisies, Pretty girls of Mayo, Ramblin’ pitchfork, Tatter Jack Walsh, Sligo maid, Stone in the field plus 3 unidentified reels and 2 unidentified airs
Comhaltas probably have the whole TK CD in their archive somewhere, it’s chockablock with unidentified commercial recordings, amusing given the big stink they make about treasuring copyright.
You fellows in the UK can just download the BBC stuff, right? Here in North America I had to capture the audio as it played. At least there aren’t any of those awful Comhaltas “beeps” to provide an audio watermark.
In the BBC stuff there’s a lot of another Tommy, McCarthy that is, pipes and concertina and well recorded. Also Tom Mulligan and Brian and Eithne Vallely, fiddle/pipes/another fiddle. A handful of more tracks of Brian. Handful of the Clancy. Hmm, does Billy Pigg count? It’s bagpipes anyway. And of course plenty of wonderful tracks of fiddle etc.
