Wow. I’ll have to check that out.
I always liked the Strawbs and was a fan of three or four of their albums, notably “From the Witchwood,” “Grave New World,” “Hero & Heroine,” and “Ghosts,” although some of those don’t hold up particularly well.
Although very much atypical of their other work, I always thought “Part of the Union” to be an irresistable song. I used to play it in the car and my daughters would sing along with the chorus. It’s probably why at least two of them turned out to be semi-socialists.

The video that went with “Hurt” was one of the most moving and courageous things I have ever seen.
The Man in Black, clearly close to his death, sitting at a piano, his hand twisted with arthritis as he sings about the inevitable is an image not easily forgotten.

As in “One half for the people, one half for me”?
[u]Hurt[/u] is an awsome music video, and shows that simple is often much more powerful and moving than complicated flash.
“Hurt” is not only the greatest music video ever made, easily, but is a stunning piece of art and, as pointed out, was a fully courageous thing for Cash to do.
As in…“I think I’m a socialist” and “I think I want to start my own business” in the same conversation.
They could start a business selling bumper-stickers and t-shirts printed with socialist slogans. Oh wait, that’s already been done…

Johnny Cash was nothing if not courageous. My respect for the man started at an early age, and never ceased growing… even after his passing. “Hurt” is about as accurate a self portrayal of the MAN as you can get… even though it was written by Nine Inch Nails.
The video for Johnny’s rendition is poignant and stirring, and highly inspiring. Miss you Mr. Cash.
