To anyone interested...my first attempts at playing

Okay, so I ordered my whistles and they haven’t come yet, but I wanted to get a book to learn myself how to play. So I looked online and found that my local (well closest anyway) Border’s had the Clarke’s Tin Whistle book in stock. So I drove half an hour to get there only to find out that they did not have it stock. So I looked it up on their system and it said that it would take 7 days or less. Cool. So I asked the girl at the counter to order it for me. She typed in all my information and then told me that it would take FOUR TO SIX WEEKS!!!
Wha??

Ungh. They had this ‘3 Minutes to Flute’ book, which i figured was total crap. But naturally I broke down and bought it. It’s very good, but only if you don’t read music. There’s several songs in it, but all in tabs. Next I have to teach myself which notes I’m actually playing, besides 1, 2, 3. Since I do read music, that shouldn’t be too hard.

Also if anyone doesn’t have their whistle yet, the book comes with a Clarke ‘Meg.’ Which totally ticks me off 'cuz I just purchased one, but there’s no point sending it back because I’ll pay more in postage than I paid for the whistle itself.

I hope that someone at church or in my family hears me play and wants one. Then I can give them my other Meg. Or I can try modifying it. Hmmm…

I’m puzzled. The book is “3 minutes to flute” but it comes with a whistle???

It’s always worth having an extra Meg or two around. That way you have one you can carry in your purse that you don’t mind losing, or that you can give to a friend or co-worker who expresses an interest in playing.

Well, yeah, I was turned off at first by the title ‘3 Minutes to Flute.’ But the guy lists names for it as ‘fipple flute, flageolet, tinwhistle, folk flute, block flute, feadog, feadan, or pennywhistle.’ Whatever. It’s a tin whistle, that’s all I care about.

I give away whistles all the time in the hopes of creating new players in my area. It’s a selfish venture really.

I hope someone will want to play after they hear me. If only to do a better job than my feeble attempts
