I know we’ve been through this whole thing before, but mine has gotten way worse in the past week or so. It’s not quite as bad as it was last winter when I had to go to physical therapy for it, but it’s just about there. It gets really bad when I play flute for more than a couple minutes. I need to take breaks at least every half hour. I was wondering if anyone else with a TMJ notices that it hurts a whole lot more when it is changing from warm weather back to cold. When it stays cold, mine is okay, but when it warms up it gets better and then gets way worse when its cold. I hate TMJ! ![]()
awww I am sorry for you…must be horrible to know that it is coming and you can do nothing about it
isn’t there anything that works?
come on, there have been a few people on this forum with tmj or the like problems so maybe you can do a search and see if there is something that might work.
things like this suck…
keep trying and stay positive! best wishes your way
greetings

I don’t recall mine getting better or worse in any patterns. It’s funny, about a week ago it was giving me some trouble, the first in a while, and I forgot about it until I read your post, and realized it was gone. I might have forgotten about it because my back started being cranky, which always takes the spotlight! Ouch!
My TMJ is usually just a mild case, but sometimes it can be worse and it can act up for some time. But, I just started playing the flute, and so far, it seems alright. I think mine is sometimes aggravated by how I sleep, or if I eat something that makes me open my mouth too far.
Isn’t the human body amazing, and frustrating at the same time?!
I hope you find some relief quickly, Danner.
My jaw trouble has been coming and going for a couple of months but I haven’t noticed it changing in relation to the weather. I’ve been frustrated by going between jaw pain and carpal tunnel wrist trouble. Aarrgh! I need to stay off this computer, I think! That would at least help the carpal tunnel.
Icing my jaw for a few minutes seems to help the jaw pain diminish. My dentist recommended rubbing an ice cube on the painful area for 10-15 seconds, and then alternating this with a warm washcloth applied to the area. Do this a few times a day, she said. Helps somewhat.
Good luck, Jeanie
I went to physical therapy last year, and all sorts of things were suggested. For me, icing it just makes it stiffer, and then when it gets back warmed up it hurts even worse. I do have a massage thingy that has a heat setting, but it takes a looooong time to warm up, and I can’t play flute while I hold that on my jaw. Ibuprofen helps it a little, but not much. Last night I couldn’t sleep well because it hurt so bad. I’m trying to excercise it, yet take it easy. (My lunch today was applesauce, yogurt, and pudding.) But, that doesn’t help much, especially since I just had to walk home from school in the snow.
I’m watching the weather just now, and the good news is that it’s going to warm up again! ('Course it’ll just get cold again in another week.
