Titantic Notes

Hello,
I know that the Titantic movie is very old now but I do like the music so much. I like to ask if any one can show me where I can find or buy the Titantic music for the whistle? Thank you very much

Hi Phong, the folio of 8 songs/tunes from Hal Leonard looks like it would fit the bill for you:

The violin or recorder editions would probably be playable on whistle with some modifications and chromatic fingerings.

If you’re just looking for the tunes from the “Irish Party in 3rd Class”: The Blarney Pilgrim, John Ryan’s Polka, The Kesh Jig, Drowsy Maggie.

That’s worth re- and re-watching

You wanna see a real party?

That’s Gaelic Storm, right?

Yes, the original line-up. Piper Brian Walsh is a sometime visitor to our LA session, and a regular at the SoCal tionól.

If I only had a penny for every time I played a slow air and somebody asked “is that from Titanic?” I wish that movie had never been made.

Jeez Dameon, you must have a whole six-pence by now :poke: your shout mate..

Dear Phongster 1…If you’d like the REAL Titanic music, try learning the 1912 Waltz by Archibald Joyce..“Song d’Autumn”.This was reportedly the last tune played by the band as the poor, dear Titanic slid beneath the waves…
There is a bit of controversy over this…some say that the last tune was the hymn “Nearer my God to Thee” and some say d’Autumn…
The surviving Radio Operator,Harold Bride who was about 20 years old at the time, had always maintained that it was “d’Autumn” which was a very popular waltz at that time..I’m inclined to go with Harold Bride’s story, himself being youthful and perhaps up with the times on the “latest things”…
The tunes itself is very beautiful, and poignant if you consider the above…there needs to be a bit of half-holing done and if your whistle is a bit piercing at the high end, hide your pets !!But I think it is well worth it…
I’d be happy to send you the dots if you care to send me a PM…
…weedie…
*Thanks to MT Guru who helped me with the music to d’Autumn…

Thank you very much everyone for the great information. I appreciate it.

I’ve been waiting to see that Phongster got some actual help before posting the following advice: The Titanic Theme sounds most authentic (most like Celine Dion) played on the slide whistle. This used to be a big laugh when I was doing a lot of coffee shop gigs.

I have used the same strategy for “Danny Boy.”

(needless to say, I tend to agree with Dameon).

Tom

I was in a new Afghan restaurant today and on the house
speakers they had Kenny G playing “My Heart May Go On”.

I did the math:
Kenny G + Celine Dion + Titanic = Trifecta of awfulness

Science!

Science!

Well, when you’ve all finished bashing Titanic, you can start on Riverdance next :poke: …
I’m a corny sort of a bloke and just happen to like Titanic…sure it’s cheesy, but so what … do we have to take everything so seriously ? …

Hard to take much of anything seriously while playing Titanic on the slide whistle. No worries from me.

I like Riverdance. Had a severe crush on Jean Butler for quite a while…Fortunately I didn’t take that too seriously, either…

This site has waaaaaaaay more info than any of us probably want or need but it does have the dots for all the contenders for “Last Tune Played on the Titanic.”

Edited to add: Next time you “Titanic haters” get a request for “that Titanic song”, play a medley of “Song d’Autumn” and “Nearer My God to Thee” then explain what you just played. Probably make everyone happy.

P.S. Put me down as really liking “My Heart Will Go On”; Celine, not so much.

I really like ‘My heart will go on’ right untill Celine starts singing..

Yep. The whistle is quite lovely. Just EXTREMELY over-played.
