HI
I have a Wild Bb Whistle and i love the sound and how it feels to play.
But unfortunately its always to flat on the second octave. If i blow more to get on the right note, it jumps to an overtone or start squicking.
Have you guys a tip for an adjustment i could make to get the jump of the octave more proper?
And if not, do you know how the wild is to play and do you know a brand thats feels kind of similar?
I have Susatos, Killarney, TWZ in Bb, but all of them don’t have enough back pressure and not such a full tone like the wild.
On the low whistles, i’m a fan of MkPro, but they don’t build a Bb.
There’s a tweak where if you can find the right diameter metal “hobby” tubing, that slips into the bore with a nice fit, you can cut a short length (around 12mm for a High D whistle) and put it in the top of the tube.
This raises the 2nd octave.
Low Whistles have various approaches, for example the Bernard Overton whistlemaking lineage presses in the tube on each side.
MK Low Whistles have a little metal doohickey that goes up there, which I found out about when an MK arrived in the post with the thingamajig laying loose in the box. I glued it into place.
All these things are similar in a way to the Fajardo Wedge some people put in their Boehm flutes.
I hadn’t considered just putting some Blu Tack putty in the upper bore. It’s the easiest solution.
Thanks a lot
If i understand correctly: @mrGumpy: i have to use the blue tak on the airhole of the whistle head? @pancelticpiper: so the idea is to reduce the diameter of the top part of the body of the whistle? (i have to check my MkPro at Lunch how its made there…
You narrow the bore by inserting something, bluetack, a length of tubing or whatever else you have handy, inside the body of the whistle/top end of the tube.
so the idea is to reduce the diameter of the top part of the body of the whistle?
