Tipple flutes- white or gray PVC??

Hi
For those of you that have tried or own both kinds, which do you prefer and why?? I’m thinking of going w/ the white, but the gray looks better to me. Just wondering how much of a difference there is in tone and volume.

The white PVC is harder and produces a slightly louder tone than the gray PVC. The industrial grade charcoal gray PVC has slightly thicker walls than the white PVC. It is also somewhat softer and produces a softer, darker, and more complex tone.

I’ve used gray PVC as well and I think it looks better than white.
Any bruising the material produces a creamy colored mark so the white is good when the flute is in a rough environment (aka children).

I now have 4 white Tipples. I do not have any grays so, by rights, I shouldn’t be in this topic. I did not ever expect white plastic to look so beautiful. IT is like the white marble from the Taj Mahal. The white seems to emphasise the “beauty in the pure functionality of the design”. (I think Frank Lloyd Wright said something like that about architecture??). The whites are loud but delicately so - like bansuris but only a lot more stable. Delicate power is what I’m after and I like it. The copper tuning slide adds a Venusian touch to the moonwhite flutes.

(BTW, Daniel, I do have some expensive car problems at the mo. I will still contact you about the Ahava-Rabba whistles and such like when my desires can be financed. :slight_smile: )

I think the white PVC has a brighter, more crisp tone, while the black has a more haunting, mellow, tone. I have a white, but it depends on what you want. :smiley: Have fun with your new flute!

I was doing a G Bhairavi nagma ( a repetitious melodic loop which supports complex tabla and other drum solo) and the tabla player - she opened her eyes and said that it was so beautiful that she he could not believe it was a plastic flute. :roll:

Next time I am asked I am gonna say its “faux marble” … :laughing:
