Tinwhistle Notation Font for your computer

As someone asked for the finger chart of a G whistle and as we do not have charts we add to the whistles when send out, I did a search on the web to see if there is anything online which could help the person.

Well AND THERE IS SOMETHING :astonished:

It is a tool you can download and add to the fonts-file. Opening a word file then you can type refering to a chart for the keyboard the complete whistle fingering tablature of a note. I find it ingeniuous and thought some of you might want to know about it as well. Here is the link to the website

I could not find out who runs it, but he or she deserve a good pad on the shoulder for making this available for free.

Brigitte

Yes, it’s great to get it on the web and for free! I will be putting a link from my site soon.
He is a member of this board (dabooks) his name is David Armstrong. I hope he doesn’t mind me mentioning this…(too late now)

Dave.

Thanks for the tip, Brigitte!
It looks like a bright idea, and probably is on a PC.

(Now, it’s about the third time I download the Mac version of this font from various sites, and there’s nothing I can do with it, since it always ends up as a “whistle.mtt” TEXT file, or unvalid Stuffit archive… I guess it’s been cross-linked “blind” from site to site, and never really patched. Аny hint, other Mac users? )

Wooo Wooooo!

Thanks a lot!

I’d rather relive 4th grade rec*rder class than use a Mac.

Make sure you’ve got the latest version of StuffIt, and then just download the PC .zip file.

Stuffit can read that format, and will open the archive. Then just install the .ttf file like normal.

I just tried it on my Mac running OSX, and it opened just fine, and worked in MS Word.

Hope that helps.

Good, you keep the PC and leave us to the Macs. We are trying to keep it exclusive, you know…

All kidding aside, although I prefer the Mac, I also use a Windows machine: I downloaded the file and installed the font. Although the installer tells me the font was installed, when I open Word, it is nowhere to be found in the fonts menu. Anyone have a clue??? :boggle:

Typical: Macs are like sidecars. When you use them, you also know how to drive a Politically Correct, or Plain Car. Those who diss them wouldn’t know how to drive them, or never tried. Sidecars.

Yep… I was oggling one of the new Powermac G5, but then I spent a few fateful hours with a financial adviser this week… Now by the time I can spare money for a new computer, it’ll probably be a G10!.. :sniffle:

I had the same problem (I use System 9.2 not OSX). So I took the PC TrueType font and converted it to a Mac Type 1 font, and it works just fine. On the website he asks for help w/ Mac install, I tried to send him both the font and instructions, but the e-mail was bounced back as undeliverable. If anybody wants the font for older Macs, or help w/ using it, let me know by e-mail and I will send it to you.,

So I did–many thanks!

Now, wouldn’t next step be Rich implementing the font on this board software, so we could use it, with a proper [font] command?

PS: To Pat–I made it a habit never buying the latest model of pooter, but waiting for a new line to be announced. So I buy second-best, on discount, then I have enough money to fill it up with RAM. With my big Photoshop files (250 MB rough scans…), OS X doesn’t help, nor does a double processor. While 1.5 GB RAM sure helps
