ThinWeasel snafu!

So there are things I’m good at, and things I’m not - among the NOT list is internet domain stuff.

Here’s the story:
I renewed the hosting contract back in september on www.thinweasel.com, and (unknowingly) not the domain name. It’s been snatched up by some big goofy commercial company, so it may be lost and gone forever, dreadful sorry Clementine.

The important bits:

  • there are still some ThinWeasels available, but you’ll have to send an email for the details. thnwzl@aol.com still works
  • I’m working on getting a site with a similar name back up and running, but we ain’t there yet.

Please tell your friends and cohorts. Write it on McDonalds napkins in crayon if you have to… the Weasel Shall Rise Again! I’ll drop back in here and leave an update as soon as I have one.

You can go to a registrar such as www.namecheap.com and register another, similar name.

I just checked and thin-weasel.com is available. You could also put “whistles” in the name, like thinweaselwhistles.com or something.

Good luck with it, Bree. Vultures the lot of them! I hope they wasted a lot of their money buying up other people’s domains. That is something that the law is going to have to address sooner or later. It is tantamount to trademark infringement.

but the filing fee for Domain Name Dispute proceedings can start at $1300 plus attorney fees. We’re probably not supposed to get into things like that here, but if you want to do something about this guy in Singapore who is using the Thin Weasel & Glenn Schultz names for his own benefit, I can give you the name of local law firms that do that kind of work. They can make suggestions about what you can do to try to get the name back before taking formal action.
