Just… wow!
People bud off too. I have unleashed 4 buds onto the planet.
You might find this interesting.
But can you, yourself, revert to your polyp stage?
Yup, lots of things in the ocean don’t seem to ever die, e.g. large sea anemones, especially in the Heteractis group. They spawn, they bud, and they keep on getting bigger, but as far as scientists can tell, once they mature, they just don’t seem to ever die. Some anemones in public aquaria are known to be 50-60 years old, and show no signs of stopping.

Reminds me a little bit of Lewis Thomas. I’m still throwing off polyps that’s why I have to go back every five years instead of the usual ten, GoLYTELY® ![]()
No, but I think someone in my family is trying to.
I’ve tried…doesn’t work ![]()
well, not since the late 60s ![]()
Polyp, put the kettle on.
Deliver us from our anemones.
I personally do not “bud off.”

It’s good to have buddies though.
I once saw a buddy guy. Unforgettable.
If that doesn’t make Dale suspend your account there’s no justice. ![]()
It’s not a beer gut, I’m budding.
I guess that it is really easy to assume that the life cycle would be similar to our own, but even a simple thing like maturity and aging can follow different paths.

It’s the sea enemas you really have to watch out for.

True, you wouldn’t want to stick the wrong thing up your keester (if you are indeed persuaded to such behaviour at all).
