That brought back a few memories missy…a dulcimer playing hippy chick eh?

Slan,
D.

I’ve got it on vinyl somewhere. Time for a rootle through the collection I think.

well, it IS in the key of D, so quite do-able!!!

…here it comes again…

I remember when the record album (remember those?) came out and my Dad brought it home. We listened to it over and over and over and over and…

That is what we used to call a skip in the record, Joseph. At what point did your Mom come in, give the bunch of you a disgusted look of hopelessness, and nudge the arm over so that the record would end?

You mean “THE Thanksgiving song” isn’t Over the River and Through the Woods?

I thought the Thanksgiving song was We Gather Together…which btw I played on the low D for my family.

Still, its been a while since I’ve heard Alice’s Restaurant, and it was time for a review. . .thanks!

Surely this is the Thanksgiving song:

I heard an interview with Arlo Guthrie a year or two ago.

He told the interviewer that he had learned, eventually, that there had been a copy of Alice’s Restaurant in the Nixon White House, along with other anti-war material they had compiled.

He pointed out that the length of the song as it was recorded on the album is exactly 18 1/2 minutes. And, as it happens, the infamous gap in the White House Watergate tapes is also exactly 18 1/2 minutes. Can there be any doubt what was on that tape that was so embarrassing to the White House, it had to be erased?

Best wishes,
Jerry

…and all this time I’d thought Tricky Dick had no sense of humor.
