The Olde Flute and the Great Flood

Just wanted to drop a line and say thanks to everyone who has been thinking kind thoughts about my antique 8-key flute that got soaked with hot water when my apartment flooded when we were on vacation last month, especially all the great folks from chat.

I am pleased to report that after careful drying, oiling, playing, oiling again, etc., there appears to be no damage to the flute, and it plays as well as it ever has (at least since I’ve owned it):

Again, thanks for the kind thoughts and the emails, chatting, etc., that calmed my nerves while I worked on the old flute. Even though I have a Hammy coming, I would miss this old cantankerous thing if anything ever happened to it. It’s like a stubborn old grandfather that you can’t help but love.

Best to all,

James–
That’s great news! Congratulations!! It would truly be a shame to lose a great old flute like that, especially to something senseless like an apartment flood. I’ve fairly recently gotten an old 6-key German flute, and I’m already becoming attached to the thing, ornery as it can be sometimes, so I sure would hate to lose it (even once I do move up to a Hammy or something like it).
