The Mystery of the Chieftain Low F

Heya,

I need some help on this one. Last week-end it’s been the second time I tried a Chieftain Low F. I just love it. What I don’t understand is that I don’t like the Overton Low F I tried as much as the Chieftain Low F. It’s very easy to play, doesnt require much air, is very “mellow” and warm. Now, I don’t like the other keys, only that one. Is it because I might not have been lucky with the Overton Low F I tried, or is it because there’s a good difference between the Chieftain and Overton. (I tought they were all the same, just different signature? hehehe). I’m very tempted by that Chieftain, but I’d buy an Overton if I knew it would kinda play the same. Also, at 130EURO (140$US) is it a rip-off? Thanks.

I say, if you like that Chieftan, go for it, and don’t worry if it’s the “right” brand or not! Maybe for low Fs, Chieftans conform better to your tastes than Overtons?

You might have been lucky with the ones you have tried. In my experience there is a big variation from whistle to whistle, even when talking same brand & key. To repeat, if you have found one you really like, go for it!
