IT IS a must, and in French & English, as far as I know:
I DO have an issue with the Boulanger, though, as the entire second part is devoted to teaching Scots GHB style doublings, birls, throws, Hornpipe-triplings, etc. (Luife, you have already noticed the encroachment of Scottish-isms on Gaita, no?)
If one can overcome all that, there is VERY good and well introduced instruction in the first half concerning all major CdC techniques… The lessons on vibrato, for ex., are indespensable: I havent encountered such detailed instrucion on vibrato in any orchestral method book (Brod, Klose, Barrett, etc.).
Nate, bag pressure will get you the upper notes; my reed is defnintely on the closed side, but I’m a woos and dont wanna pump hard
,
altho I havent put a lot of time on smallpipes, offhand I would say the pressure oughta be higher than ssp’s.
To Elbowmusic:
If you’re interested I’ve got a partial set of drawings for a bechonnet in G, showing the chanter and drones- including the little “petit bourdon” that’s built into the back of the mainstock.
I’ve just finished scanning them for the benefit of someone else who was after some drawings; if you’re interested drop me a PM.
They’re a bit rough to look at, but useable( I built a set of pipes from them some years back)
Cheers.

Yes, as charly wrote it is available in english, french and german.
Thomas
btw: your Bagpipe Collection is very interesting! I really like the Sound of
the Gaita, expecially the older ones with the galician-Style ronquillos.
Thank you My Friend, it´s difficult to find a person who has hear an Old Sytle Gaita with the ancient ronquillos.
Who is the maker of your Bechonnet? Do you have more french pipes? Do you have photos of them?

My Musette Bechonnet is from Rheinhard Zielonka and i have two
Cornemuse du Berry, one made from Maple and one Wild Cherry
both from Rheinhard Zielonka. (i like his Instruments)
I dont have lots of photos, only a handfull low-quality Pics on
my MySpace-Site. ( and some little soundclips. the Instrument in the Bourree is the Cherry Cornemuse, the Walz is played with the
Bechonnet)
muchos saludos
Thomas
I really like the CD
Musiques d’Auvergne
Cafe Charbons.
Though it is the droneless cabrette and not the Bechonet, the music is fantastic. The piper is Dominique Paris. One of the great things about this CD is its simplicity: simply cabrette, vielle a roue, and fiddle. No gimicky arrangements or modern instruments.
As people have mentioned, other great CDs are
Musiques pour Cornemuses Jean Blanchard
Cornmuses du Centre Eric Montbel, Jean Blanchard
Auvidis 6830 “Vielles et Cornemuses” is another essential CdC CD ![]()
Well, I actually contacted Rogge and he’s sending me a chanter reed right now. But if there’s a player of these lovely instruments so near by. . .
Wow that hattink guy is quite the bagpipe maker. Great site. All these French pipes come in every key imaginable. How do you decide?
Nate
pssst: i’ve had some bad experiences with this hattinck dude in the past (out of tune instruments, badbadbad reeds, a bag that was too small to play in a comfy way,…) please don’t spend your money there, you’ll only get frustrated. his instruments look good, but if you want a balanced, well made instrument go see olle geris, remy dubois, rogge or bernard blanc.
amen to that.
