The Mississippi Flood

I keep hearing that the Mississippi flood hasn’t been this bad since the 1930’s. What about the big giant flood from about 12 years or so ago? Was that flood nothing compared to what this will be? Everyone is in my thoughts.

This flood is larger. I talked to my brother outside of New Orleans today. They are going to have to open flood gates, which with flood homes in the delta region, just like it has done all alone the Mississippi. Here in Indiana we received a lot of rain this Spring, and the water that doesn’t go into ground water has to go somewhere. The Ohio and Wabash rivers all feed into the Mississippi

Sorry if this is an unintelligent question, but…

If it keeps flooding every few years (not as bad as this, but still flooding), how come they don’t just build elsewhere?

We seem to be having five hundred year floods every 2-10 years somewhere in North America, often in the same places. Humans love flood plains, seismic faults, and fire climax habitats like lemmings love cliffs.

It’s all flat.

West Virginia has flash floods because of the mountains. Now when folks receive government funding to rebuild where it is prone to flash flood they have to rebuild their homes on stilts.
