Ok, I’ve become obsessed with a quick little tune that Paddy plays after track 8 on the Chieftain’s cd “Tears of Stone.” The song it follows is called the Deserted Soldier, but the album credits say the little tune afterwards is called “The Kerry Slide.”
I’m just not seeing much similarity. The song on the cd seems more like the first part of Merrily Kiss the Quaker’s Wife (Merrily Dance the Quaker). Although I can’t place the second or third parts of the song on the cd. I guess I could take the album’s word for it, but it just doesn’t seem to match up…
Anyone here have the cd and recognize the tune? I’d like to start figuring 'er out on the pipes. I could learn it by ear, but I’d like to at least be sure of the name anyways.
Also: ornamentation question.
Those are rolls he’s using all over the place on any sustained note in that song, right?
Joey, I will dig the CD out to see if I can help, but one thing you should know about slides and polkas is that both are commonly associated with Kerry, and there are at least a dozen tunes named the Kerry Polka or the Kerry Slide. It is almost a euphemism for “Gan Am”, or “Unamed”.
