A few days ago, the forums changed appearance on my computer. No one has said anything. At least nothing that I saw. There are no borders around each post and things, in general, don’t look pretty. What’s up?
You have contracted the not-pretty virus. You must call a Mary Kay representative at once.
Try doing a “deep” refresh in your browser - Control F5.
Try clearing your browser cache.
Try deleting your chiffandfipple.com cookies. Ugly, ugly cookies … ![]()
The Mary Kay Representative recommended an apricot exfoliator. Voila! She said that F5 stuff was nothing but tap water.
Funny story, I did all this before reading the replies.
Have you accidentally adjusted the brightness/contrast of your monitor? If you reduce either one, do the lines etc. come back?
I cleared out my temp internet files and browser history and did a disc clean up and all that stuff. That solved the problem. The brightness of the monitor had nothing to do with the border lines. All standard border lines and cells and cell patters were gone but amazingly, each of the smilies had it’s own border box of it’s own. And nothing was positioned in quite it’s standard position.
The next time this happens, I’ll take a screen shot and show you what I had.
Who’s this Mary Kay bird…?
Slan,

What are cells and cell patters? ![]()
A few years ago I nearly got into an argument with someone over a chart they posted. What they were saying made no sense … Until it hit me and I cranked up the monitor brightness. Turns out much of the chart was dark letters on a black background, and had been completely invisible to me. ![]()
Lambchop, you probably need to talk to your local Mary Kay Representative if you have to ask a question like that. She has product for you. Cells are what your skin is made of. She has product that will help your cells defy age. Patters is just patterns misspelled. She can probably offer you some technical assistance about patterns if you don’t know what patterns are either. You just made need Jack to be YOUR guardian angel for once.
Nah, cell patter is what you get when you hang around with molecular biologists. Eukaryote … blah blah … ribosome … blah blah …
Not a pretty site … er … sight.

I hate it when I can’t see the boarders
Ya’d think the tar in the crow’s nest would have mentioned it…
Sometimes this can be a matter of your browser forgetting the stylesheet, and you can make it remember by pasting the stylesheet’s name into your address bar, added to the site base URL (root). The commonest stylesheet name is …main.css, so that’s where I start, but if that produces a 404 error you can view source on any page and look for something that says “stylesheet”. It’ll likely be in the header, ie, at the top, so you don’t have to go digging through acres of confusing code to find it.
Here, the relevant line is:
<link rel="stylesheet" href="./styles/subsilver2/theme/stylesheet.css" type="text/css" />
The period inside the quotes stands for the site root, which here is
http://forums.chiffandfipple.com
, so puting them together makes:
http://forums.chiffandfipple.com/styles/subsilver2/theme/stylesheet.css
.
I have never taken in boarders. There isn’t enough room in here to swing a cat. Just ask the cat, if you don’t believe me.
Hmm, it appears the cat is dead …

Has anyone got a CTRL +F5 tip to remove extraneous apostrophes? There’s three right there.
Imagine what we could do if we could harness the power of the extraneous apostrophe.
I have that problem on the other UP site, but not here. It has to do with misreading the quotation marks around the quoted userid in a quotation. Don’t know what sets them off like that, so don’t quote me.
