Hi Folks,
Just managed to get a basic webiste for the Cruinniú/Flutemeet uo and running. Still very basic at the moment, but there’s basic info about our modus operandi, how to get here, where to stay when you do, how to contact us, and most importantly you can now register and book a place at this years event directly from the website.
You’ll find us at http://www.flutemeet.org/Flutemeet
This should be fantastic! So sad I can’t attend…
Would love to learn from Conal o Grada,
Had a great class with John Wynne in 2010.
And probably the most interesting meeting would be with Fintan… If he’d agree to have an in depth conversation on musical topics.
If the above link works, still some photos viewable from the first “Cruinniu”, and also very favourable comments from 2006, just in case anyone needs a wee nudge to make up their mind. After missing last year, I’ll be heading there again. Anyone else ?
Was hoping to go to this, but I’ve only been playing for a year or so and am not sure I’ll be able to keep up. Can anyone offer advice on past experiences for beginners at the Cruinniú? The website does explain that the format suits all. I’d imagine I would learn heaps, and benefit from getting exposure to the masters at an early point in my learning…
This also happened to me 2 years ago. There are a few B&Bs in and around Ballyvourney, and 2 hotels, the Abbey and the Mill. Some of the accomodation at the Mill is used by the tutors, so they may not have many rooms available - you could always ask. If you try to book a room at the Abbey online, ie- through their website, it will tell you that no rooms are available. This is not the case, so don’t give up. I called them half an hour ago - [353] 264 5324 - and got a single room B&B for 3 nights for e40 a night, which I think is cheaper than it was 2 years ago. I’m mentioning this here just in case someone might be put off by not being able to find accomodation for the 3 days.
Looking forward to it already.
Yep, phone, don’t email unless you have a confirmed contact address. Having said that, quick email to Mary at the Mills got me a reply in 10 minutes, so I’ll be there again as last year.
Hi all. I am attending (staying at the Abbey Hotel) and am super excited! I am a newbie on the forum but have been lurking for awhile. I grew up playing clarinet and have been playing whistle for the last few years. I started playing wooden flute last year and while not a novice, I have so much to learn! I am looking forward to meeting new friends and learning from you all!
I am planning on staying in Cork on the Sunday before flying back on Monday. Does anyone have any suggestions for where to stay in Cork and what to do. Especially, if there are any session recommendations on Sunday night?
Hi Chris - I’ll be in Cork on the Sunday as well. I did the same 2 years ago, and there were several sessions going, starting in the afternoon. There will be at least one other Scottish flute player, and possibly three, with me, all looking for tunes.
As far as accomodation is concerned, I booked into a Travelodge - they’re reliable, and you know what you’re getting. You might get a cheaper B&B - the Irish Tourist Board could help you with that.
See you then.
