Blue is nice, but beige is so '70s.
That’s when everything is working. Most of the time, a good third won’t light up, half of those are covered with 2 mm thick dust with marked with ‘wash me!’ or happy faces; and three won’t light up, are covered in dust, AND have NFG! scrawled across them in fat red sharpie ink.
I don’t care for the blue Velcro, makes me feel all sticky.
Compare that to Virgin Galactic’s Spaceship One:

I don’t remember duct tape being mil spec…
Looks like duct and foil tapes, must have run out of one?
heyyyyy… what does this button do?
That’s when they made them, silly.
In the Space Shuttle Endeavor the control sticks and foot pedals look like they were designed for a tank instead of an air/space craft, rather out-of-place with the rest of the interior design. I don’t think that I would have wanted to sit down in that seat and be in charge of getting this beast back safely on the ground.
I found much of it familiar.
The blue screens are newer.
Ignore the check engine light. They just want you to come in so that they can charge you for a service call.
This item looks like one from my kitchen !

Someone has a clickable, zoomable 360 version of the cockpit pic:
oh not ya don’t…I’ve other things to do today ![]()
I saw patina on the control stick, hope somebody doesn’t clean that off. Anybody know where they got their velcro I need something to hold my toll pass on my windshield. The stuff I have comes unglued when it get hot.
Seriously, does anyone know why there are all those blue velcro pads ? For astro-sticky notes-to-self ?
They help ya stay in place when in freefall and hold other pieces of equipment and supplies such as covers for instruments. In space you can’t live without velcro.
dwest, thanks for the tip! A little Googling lead to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Velcro.
“Each space shuttle has ten thousand inches of a special Velcro … A Velcro patch is used inside astronauts’ helmets where it serves as a nose scratcher…”
(LOL was invented for moments like this !)
