The Dubliners

I read on www.geocities.com/toeye/dubliners/ that Paddy has left the Dubs after 9 years. Does anyone know anything about his reasons or if a replacement is likely?

More worryingly, Barney has been in hospital for ‘surgery’, although I gather he is out and well on the mend.

I can’t believe that they don’t have a properly functioning official site after all these years - progress seems slow on the forthcoming one.

I only heard about this yesyerday afternoon. Here is some more info,

I think Patsy Watchorn will probably get the job in the end as he sounds a lot like Paddy Reilly although it would be nice to see a younger man, maybe a newcomer to the scene, in the chair and maybe start a second generation of the band.Who knows?

I thought this was going to be a James Joyce thread.

FWIW, The late Luke Kelly was reading “Dubliners” when the boys were trying to find a name for themselves, the rest is history

Cool.

I’ve seen them this sunday in Antwerp and they had a new member called Patsy (I’m not sure of his last name). It was a nice show, by the way.

Cheers, Dub, although I think the info on Balladeers is much the same summary and a link to the other site.

I saw on another site that Gerry O’Connor had filled in for Barney at one point on the tour.

Rob, yep that’ll be Mr Watchorn. Did they actually say he was a new member rather than just a guest?

Obviously Ronnie coming back would be great, but I can’t believe he’d be up for it full time!

They said he was a new member, that’s how I understood it, anyway. He seemed like quite a good singer.

Cheers,

Rob

i’m delighted Jim McCann recovered from his troath cancer!!
singing is a hard job…
many people thought his voice was gone after the operation.

a good friend from Tralee is over in Dublin now with troath cancer, he’s just hoping to survive… many many gigs are taking their toll..
i send him a few prayers, Timmy, if you read this, i’m sending you more prayers again.
Timmy Donoghue once made a beautiful tape, he bought a racehorse with the money he got from the tape.

good luck to you Timmy!

Here’s hoping your friend recovers, lixnaw. A good friend of ours had throat cancer a few years ago. After surgery he made a fine recovery. In fact he’s smoking as much now as he ever did. I said he was a friend - I didn’t say he wasn’t an idiot.

Dub updated me a while ago about Jim McCann’s progress. I wonder how Mr M is doing now…

When I saw the Dubs on the Luke Kelly memorial tour in Dublin, Jim was there as kind of MC, but obviously couldn’t sing. Last time I looked at his site the info hadn’t been updated for a while so far as I could see. I hope he’s still doing well.
