The Crested Hen

Anyone heard of this tune? Can you post sheet music or a sound file? Or a web site?

My music partner in Illinois heard it on an Irish radio show and said I should learn it. I googled it but only got a website I can’t get into. She says “It’s slow. Like an air.” And no, she can’t record it or copy it or mail it or all like that.

Many thanks in advance.

UPDATE: I think this is the same as Crested Hens by Solas.

Silly me. I was searching “Clips and Snips” not “All Forums”. It sure didn’t show up on Google.

Thanks for looking.

Search for Crested Hen at http://trillian.mit.edu/~jc/music/abc/FindTune.html

Ridseard…GMTA

Here you go:

The](http://trillian.mit.edu/~jc/cgi/abc/findtune?P=The+Crested+Hen&F2=find+%28wide%29&L=100%22%3EThe) Crested Hen at Tunefinder

Don’t forget thesession.org. They have it.

This is one of those tunes where you might want to seriously consider halfholing the Cnat as it’s often played slow enough (a la Solas) that an even slightly out of tune cross fingered Cnat sticks out like a sore thumb.

And of course you’ll need a whistle that has a large enough bottom hole so you can half hole a good Eb. Keyless flutes need not apply :frowning:

Once again, the Chiffies come through! Thanks.

Now someone tell me why nothing came up on Google. I entered “Crested Hen” (in quotes) and music.

What should I have done? For future reference …

If I{m not mistaken, this a French tune, and is played much more quickly by the French.

Might have done better to omit the quotes. That way you get other configurations, such as “The Crested Hens” or “A Crested Hen.”

I entered simply “crested hen & music” (without the quotes) at Google and got this:

Well, that was easy. No more quotes for me.

Four quotes = one gallon.

Thanks.

Try the whistle workshop, they have a recording of the tune played on an Overton F and sheet music!

Quotes are your friend!

They may not work for every search but 9 times out of 10 you’ll get better more relevant results using them.

Yep.

“search for phrase” [to find exact phrase]

+use +plusses [to find pages with both words, but in no particular order]

use a -minus [to eliminate a specific word]

Just those three will help a lot in using compliant searches.
