Is anybody watching “The Colony” out there? The Discovery series? I havent missed a episode. I wish Survivorman was still on, but Les has gone on to other stuff.
Expedition Africa , was a good short series , but its over.. Anybody else into this stuff?
Im not a organized sport watcher, so I love this kind of outdoor stuff.

seen this yet. But reading the wikipedia entry it
sounds interesting. What is it about the setting
that makes it “simulate life after global catastrophe”?
Also, I have a typographic question for you. Most
of your posts contain a separator consisting of two
commas. I’ve never seen that used before. What
does it signify?
I guess its my lack of edumacation 
I write run on sentenses, so I am hoping the commas , make a break in them Dont know much grammar , only high school grad , so Im just trying to make some sense out of my ramblings.

I’ve seen the ads, but haven’t watched. The only show in this vein I watch is Deadliest Catch (love Phil and Jonathon, can’t stand Sig).
I absolutely refuse to watch Bear what’shisname or those types of shows.

It’s called a “grid search” for a reason. Stay put - make youself as visible as possible, etc.

I’ve watched it. The premise was appealing to me but the “reality” of the situation is pretty lame, IMO. It’s “Junk Yard Wars” with “Survivor” participants. The whole thing is way too contrived to prove or study anything. All the materials (and therefore, the possible solutions) are planted. All the participants have been selected based on their backgrounds to either contribute to the solution or create conflicts (i.e. “good television”). The roles of the outsiders are scripted to create unrealistic excitement as well.
I heard Crosby, Stills and Nash’s “Wooden Ships” right after I watched “The Colony” on Monday, thanks to all the “40 years since Woodstock” nostalgia. And Les Stroud , hes da man . Yes staying put is the preferred method to get rescued, but that might make a lame tv show. I would personally love to see him set up & live off the land , but many need more “excitement”

Yes, he does. Just think of how deep the doodoo would be for the camera crew if Bear wasn’t with them. He is the real deal. Regardless of where the cameras were filming it, Bear Grills still flew a paraglider over Mt Everest himself. Les Stroud has a support crew as well. It’s all detailed in the disclaimer before each of the shows. And Les Stroud is the guy that sheltered under a log along an Alaskan river and built a fire in the shelter to keep himself dry and ended up setting the shelter on fire. At least he was man enough to show it on TV.
It’s interesting stuff to watch though. Don’t know about the Colony yet. Though I may try wood gassification thing some time.
I suspect there are different rules for survival versus expecting to be rescued. The survival school I went through forty-some years ago was more like Bear Grills camp.
