Giant Pacific Toad Fish, they’ve done this before, 1906 in San Francisco. My first impulse would be to say a Porichthys analis but I’m thinking the P. notatus instead.
-Don’t know if its the same bloop sound, but Sausalito houseboaters heard toadfish mating hums in the 1980s.
Poor things. Someone should teach them the words.
Did you click through to the site dedicated, apparently entirely, to that one sound file? Great site. He’ll be setting up a store next: “Bloops R Us” or “Bloop U Like”.
Well, it’s not a whale. I have a season job listening to whales and looking at screens similar to that one. There’s a lot of noise in the sea.
