Does any one know where I can find the sheet music for this song?
That is the Boondock Saints theme, have you tried the session for that?
Aye… This came up not too long ago. I think somebody with too much time on their hands actually made sheet music for the tune, other then that I don’t think you’ll actually find sheet music for this piece. Try picking it up by ear, it’s not too difficult; if I can do it anybody can. ![]()
And I was just trying to do that tonight! I didn’t even know the song had a name. All I remember is I heard while watching some movie and it played during a scene involving hills. Not very descriptive, and the version I cobbled together isn’t half as good as that! Ah coincidence…
edit 2: Removed link to bad version. Apologies all round!
edit:
Oy oy oy … That transcription is horrible and wrong. Avoid, avoid! Run away, run away!
There are various repeated themes and variations. I haven’t written out the transitions, so you need to figure those out from the recording. But everything is in the correct order. Use the Concertina.net converter for a PDF.

That’s definitely an improvement, MTGuru! I only looked at the first few bars of the transcription I linked to and it seemed in order. I was attempting it today in full and found it didn’t actually sound like what I thought. Assumed I was making errors. I’m glad to know it wasn’t me. Apologies for any crime against whistlery, and thanks for the good version!

I’m sure that other transcription was well-intentioned, but just wrong. As you say, anyone trying to play it would realize that pretty quickly. Have fun with the music!
First, as a non-whistling Violinist poking his nose into places it certainly doesn’t belong, I had a few questions.
I am working on learning this song (yea, I know) but not yet skillful enough to play it by ear. I have gotten down notation for most of the song from the wonderful ABC notation you provided (I had to google around to figure that out too, but got most of it).
Questions:
What is the P in “PA3” ?
and what is the {gf} in “f2{gf}e” or more generally, what are the {braces} ?
The only other thing I couldn’t figure out was what is “H” in your notation
… as above in “Hd6”
Any insight would be wonderful.
Thanks and apologies for my amateur questions.
A beginner of about 1 year,

Hi LV, and welcome to the Chiffboard!
If you plug the ABC into the Concertina.net converter, all your questions will probably be answered. At this point you probably shouldn’t try to read the ABC directly, unless you want to have nightmares about alphabet soup.
But succcinctly:
o The P (“Pralltriller” = upper mordent) is a single trill or “flip” , just one flick of the finger.
o The braces { } enclose grace notes.
o H (“Hold”) is a fermata.
If you’re interested in ABC, the ABC Notation home page maintained by Chris Walshaw (who devised the notation) has pointers to learning and tutorials.
Good luck!
Gotcha! thanks that’s exactly what I needed to know!
Incidentally I tried to plug the notation you wrote into the converter, but I had an error between keyboard and chair >xD
Just now re-tried it and it worked fine..
Thanks for the insight & prompt response. Again sorry for the newbie question.
Thanks sincerely,
LostViolinist.
