The acoustics of the tin whistle

Hi, I am doing a research in the Irish trad music, and I need to study the acoustics of the Whistle: harmonics, physics…

Does anybody know a document that could help me?

Thank you very much

I have several recommendations.

  1. Air Columns and Toneholes by Bart Hopkin
    www.windworld.com

  2. Music Instrument Design by Bart Hopkin
    www.windworld.com

  3. Fundamentals of Musical Acoustics by Arthur Benade
    www.amazon.com

I also make a book on Tin Whistle building that covers a little theory.

You can also check out:

ASA Acoustic Society http://asa.aip.org/links.html

Maybe someone here has Pete Kosel’s website address.

There is also links to various scientific studies of fipples at the Recorder Home Page site.

Mikel, here’s a link to it

Tin Whistle Builder’s Anthology by Daniel Bingamon http://jubileeinstruments.messianic-webhosting.com/books.htm

I bought one a while back. It’s a really interesting book. It’s very informative and detailed. Daniel really knows his stuff about whistle physics.

Good Luck,
Paul

I suggest the University of New South Wales (Australia) site for whistle/flute/shakuhachi acoustics…

…or, you can try the acoustics manuals of Lew Paxton Price and Bart Hopkin at…
