The 1st annual floating Tionol

For those of you who don’t visit the piping forum. I am running an Ullieann Piping Tionol this summer. It will have classes in piping, reedmaking and maintenance and will take place on a narrowboat on the river Thames. This unique event will be an ideal place to for any beginners start ‘pipering’ as quality practice sets can be hired for the duration of the Tionol and/or bought at the end of the trip. Any budding pipers out there please get in touch and book your place

Now these are the kinds of things I can’t wait to do when I retire…it sounds like too much fun!

Buskersean, I’d love to start piping but everyone I speak too says it’s so hard and you have to start young (which I am not!). Are the pipes really that akin to wrestling an octopus?

Piping is certainly not the black art is is made out to be by some. I was warned off them more than encouraged when i was cosidering taking them up. My advice is to get a set and give it a go, if you love 'em you will put in the required practice. Buying a good set helps to, just like any instrument a bad one will hinder the beginner.
