Thanksgiving RickRolled!

The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade just got RickRolled! This is the best Thanksgiving ever!

A float rolled out with these horrible, nondescript, singing animated characters. And 30 seconds into it, the music stops, “Never Gonna Give You Up,” starts and out comes Rick himself to sing the song. A thing of beauty.

Of course, this spells the official end of Rickrolling, which is also beautiful.

Gosh, I just want to start disco dancing all over the house!

kinda scary, innit?

I think I’m pleased to say that I have no idea who Rick is or what rolling is or why this is a famous thing. I’m so out of touch!

Not really famous, just an Internet meme for a while this year.
Silliness and Nonsense. “Ooo, look, someone sent me a link to
a video. They say it’s an outtake from the Miss America pageant
where you can see Miss Arizona’s nipple… I’ll just click on that
then… Aaaaaa, it’s Rick Astley from the 80’s! My eyes! I’ve been
Rickrolled!”

Apparently the RickRoll Internet address changes periodically, but for now, —> try this. <—

Moreover, to be “RickRolled” is to be suddenly interrupted, from whatever you could have been doing/watching, by that tune.

Yes, it’s more than “old”, but it’s such a phenomenon that perhaps it could yet have a future. Ya never know!

Really, think about it. Has “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” ever really faded from public memory, after nearly seventy years?

I loved it. Then I had to explain “rickrolling” to daughter#2 . :stuck_out_tongue:
(I just sent her an email tonight that is very important… )

Way back in the punk [southern ontario style, so a year or two after hipper locales had theirs] era, a Toronto punk named Toby Swann, former singer of a former toronto punk band called the battered wives (boy did THAT get the second wave feminists going) released a cover of Somewhere over the Rainbow that I heard on radio a couple of times, and have been looking for ever since. At this point, I’m looking mostly because I couldn’t find it before; it’s probably awful if I actually heard it again.

This one?
