This was at a resort and many toursits have been killed. Imagine you were a family member who turns on the tv to try and figure out what has happened and all you see if Fifty f$&%#n Cent talking about how much money he had. It’s certainly ruined my Saturday.

CNN… a real joke. OntheMoor’s post proves it. You can say the same for them all. What I never got was when there is a story they are really sensationalizing they generate a custom graphic and theme music for the story. It’s almost like they are branding the event.
As I write this the terrorist attacks in Egypt are being covered as the lead stories on ABC, NBC, and CBS, as well as Fox. Didn’t have time to check CNN, but the story about the investigation of the bombing is on their home page.
The bombings in Egypt get a lot of coverage here in Denmark, at least. Of course, there were approximately 900 Danish tourists in Sharm when it happened, so it’s not completely, er, irrelevant from the point of view of the Danish media.
An extremely sad thing. I was/am looking to take another trip to Egypt at some point within the next few years but this is not exactly reassuring.
But you’re right in some respects Brian. They keep going on about the number of British tourists who were there, and “8 Britons were hurt, two seriously including a 14 year old girl”.
It’s always been an element of British news reporting that has pizzed me off over the years. “An earthquake has struck in and the death toll is expected to be high. No Britons are believe to have been involved.” Oh that’s all right then.

I hate to drag this into it but I was thinking along similar lines whe nearlier this week www.iraqbodycount.net released figures relating to civilian deaths in the warzone: 24.865 over the past two years, an average of 34 a day. War, insurgency and crime takes it’s toll. But as the genie has been out of the bottle so long now it has become just another backgroundnoise. Just another statistic.
There is no difference between the news media and this forum. People here discuss things they can relate to. The media sells the news to who they think their customers are. Those media with the highest ratings made the best guess, and all the other shows copy the winning format. If there are few to no customers of your favourite news broadcast who are affected by the Egyptian bombings, it has nothing to do with belittling the tragedy and loss of those involved. Its just good business to cover the stories that matter most to your customers.
most suppposed “news” does not affect us directly in any shape or form, but a lot of it is there for rating purposes ie which story has the better potential for an emotional angle, as in what if that happened to my daughter or friend etc. That’s why the Natalee Holloway or Laci Peterson cases got so much attention. A lot is also overdramatization look at these clowns reporting on hurricanes standing in the wind and rain. Arabs, Muslims call for anti-terror unity
BEIRUT, Lebanon, July 23 (UPI) [u]Science Daily[/u]
Arab leaders and Muslim organizations condemned the overnight explosions in Egypt’s Sharm el-Sheikh resort and urged common efforts to fight terror.
The leaders of Syria and Lebanon, the Palestinian Authority, the Arab Gulf states, as well the Organization of Islamic Conferences offered condolences to Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and the Egyptian people on the blasts.
Three explosions rocked the busy Red Sea resort in the Sinai after midnight, killing at least 75 people and injured more than 120 others.
The leaders offered to provide support to Egypt in its fight against terrorism and called for joining Arab and Muslim efforts to fight “evil terrorism,” which they said was targeting innocent civilians all over the world.
The Saudi-based Organization of Islamic Conferences, with groups 57 Muslim countries, said the blasts in Sharm el-Sheikh and other terrorist attacks “contradict all the principles of Islam and human morality.”
The OIC said in a statement “these recent horrendous crimes requires all to find new and effective ways for common Muslim and international action to fight this trend that is harming the Muslim world, its prestige and which has distorted the image and reputation of Muslims.”
