Hello all. I’m relatively new to this forum stuff, so please bear with me. My son has played the tin whistle for a few years now. When we talk, he talks about rolls, slides, jigs, etc. I just don’t know what these things are. I am musically challenged, though I played recorder back in the golden years. Can anyone help me with this musical terminology?
TADA!!! Let me be the first to welcome you as the 5000th member!!! WHat’s that worth,… well… um… only that you have that distinction, and might warrent a few happy posts in honor thereof, but hey! Welcome!!

I’ll leave the terminology clarification to others.
A lot of terminology can be found on Brother Steve’s page..probably a lot of the lingo you’re hearing has to do with ornaments. Here’s a quick link to that part of the site

Though I do recommend reading the entire tutorial rather than just that part..i’ll expose you to a lot more terms ![]()
welcome mommatune44!
hope you get the info you are looking for.
i don’t have it, unfortunately, but those guys do. . . .
Say, mammatune44, come on over for the celebration!
Wow! The 5000th member! What an honor!
Don’t just settle for reading Brother Steve’s page, though. Get a whistle for yourself! There’s no reason your son should be having all the fun by himself.

You are our 5000th new person on the board.
Strides = trousers or pants. He’s probably talking about slides.
Welcome to the board!
Wow! Thank you all for your kind welcomes. I never knew I’d be getting this much attention. Anyways, thanks much Wanderer for that link. It’s helping greatly. And Martin, sorry, it was slides. I’m a horrible typist. I guess next stop will be over to the “celebration”. ![]()
