TDI anyone? (Diesel Volkswagen) ...

End of July, I blew the head gasket on my old Honda Accord pulling a utility trailer.

I’d been studying up on cars that might eventually run on biodiesel, and I decided a Jetta TDI would be the thing. I was lucky to find a 2000 GLS (the deluxe version, w/ alloy wheels, sunroof, heated seats, deluxe sound system) with 130K miles (with good maintenance, these things routinely go 450K or more), in pretty good shape, for $3,500.

This car wouldn’t be for everyone, but it’s perfect for me. Oh, and did I mention it gets 45 - 50 mpg? I typically get over 700 miles on a ~15 gallon tankful.

Seems, the center of the online VW diesel universe is http://www.tdiclub.com, if anyone’s curious.

Best wishes,
Jerry

My only diesel car was great for fuel efficiency. Unfortunately, where I am it gets a little too cool at times for even No. 1 diesel to work well in some vehicles (in my limited experience).
