Syn Whistles invite C&F....

Hello Folks , Syn Whistles extends an invitation to C&F to their official launch. This will take place over the Easter weekend coming up, at the 2003 National Folk Festival in Canberra.
Syn whistles have been the development of a whistle maker experienced in making wooden whistles for the past 15 odd years. It has been my aim to make a whistle that would equate to a high end type whistle, but at a reasonable price. The design has been easy, it is more or less the same as my wooden whistles, the differences have come in the use of materials and the development of production techniques to produce a uniform, quality instrument. Syn Whistles derive their name through the use of the SYNthetic, or not naturally occurring materials, from which they are made, Delrin and Aluminium tubing.
The first production run of 50 whistles,( key of d, aluminium bodied, delrin mouthpiece, brass tuning slide) will be available at the National Festival, and by any other possible means, for sale at the introductory price of US$30. I hope to see you at the festival and am sure you will be impressed with Syn Whistles, see you there, Mr Syn.

Welcome to C&F…
Naturally, everyone would like to see pictures and listen to sound files. Do you have a website listing?

Hi Tony, a website will come with the fullness of time, the best I can do at the moment is send you a pic through your private mail. It will be on it’s way shortly. Synfully yours, Syn Whistles.

It’s always a pleasure to meet new makers (new to us anyway). I hope that you have a successful launch.

They look nice, don’t they!

Nice looking whistles! Could you send one to Dale for a test run? If they sound as good as they look, you won’t be able to keep up with demand.

Wow! They look pretty darn good for $30. The mouthpiece looks similar to a Sindt (due to the metal/delrin sandwich).

-Brett

Could this be Tony having us on in honor of 4/1? $30 seems too good to be true…

Well, as Avanutria pointed out in chat, Tony has no email address listed to have had the picture sent to. Hmm… not supposed to end a sentence with “to.” Oh! Did it again…

Jim, the thought never crossed my mind. I think the announcement is legit. Syn is an Australian company and ther rate of exchange is in the favor of US buyers. He e-mailed me a picture and I put it online just to see what interest is brings.
They are nice looking whistles.

Walden, Syn sent me a private message with an e-mail address. I responded with mine. No big mystery… honest.

Ya’ll talking 'bout me in chat again ??

What’s up wit dat?

Note: I don’t speak like that in real life. Well, not usually :roll:

It never occurred to me that it was April 1st where you are reading this, as it is well into April 2nd where I sit (secret dateline business). The answer is that Tony was very quick off the mark early this morning when I posted (or is that late last night yesterday?) and requested a photo, I sent a him a private message with my email address and he sent me his address where I was able to forward the attached pic… sounds convoluted doesn’t it!
The result is that Tony posted the pic for me- thanks Tony- I have no idea how you did it, but I appreciate it, looks good.
No. it’s not a joke, Syn Whistles are Fair Dinkum! Syn.

Good thing C&F has an official correspondent (code name W1K+) embedded in Oz.

/// begin data encryption
Wombat, can you make it to Canberra? :wink:
/// end scramble

I think that Syn whistles exist and that this is no joke. In fact, from the photograph, they look just like a prototype I’m looking at on my desk as I type. Well, actually, I see it when I look up from typing. :smiley:

I’m saying nothing more until I get confirmation or disconfirmation of my hunch as to who Mr.Syn actually is. I’ll keep you posted.

Zub, this little exercise shouldn’t require a trip to Canberra. :wink:

Not really. Miss Nutria suggested just such a scenario, a little further into the conversation. If you are for real, and I hope you are, mayhaps Dr. Syn would be a good mascot.

Or maybe his alterego.

Being reputed a fool, I can chance a couple guesses.

Guess 1) Your prototype might be in cocobolo.

  1. And my main guess is, looking at the picture and design, that if I was to put a name over Mr Syn, I’d blurt without thinking much Michael Grinter. And buy half-a-dozen.

Then again, I’m a fool… You keep me update, W1K?

Wonder how much shipping will be. . .I’d be interested in trying it out if shipping wasn’t terribly expensive.

OK,where does the line form? couint me in..
