Got my Syn today, and this whistle got here faster from Australia than my new video commanders from my local cable company - a big plus for the efficiency of Mr. Syn. I was somewhat taken aback by the fact that the tube it came in was open at both ends, covered only by tape. Possibly removed by the authorities, as stamped on it was “ID Verified” and a few other such reassuring terms. These are strange days, but I guess I’m glad somebody’s checking.
Anyway, the Syn popped out looking a bit raggedy superficially cosmetically; this was neatly addressed in a few secs with some 0000 steel wool and jeweler’s cloth rub down (on the whistle). As mentioned by others, the holes are not well-rounded, but that does not effect playing or comfort. Based on some initial quick runthroughs, it plays really well and the tuning slide is very well done.
I’d have to agree that it may be the world’s best $30 whistle. I’m taking it to Boston for a week, as it’s a good traveler. Sound volume is moderate, and you do have to keep the air stream tight to stay in the upper octave. All told , I like it and it’s quite a bargain.
