Still looks quite “recordery” to me with the big A** bulge in the middle, but hey - Different strokes, right?
Thanks btw for letting me know just how bad my eyesite has really gotten…

Loren, we’re all aging…but furcrisesakes, its a picture. You can’t judge an object by an amateur photo taken while sitting on a livingroom floor.
Speaking of pics…I find it a bit telling that I was asked for pics…not a sound clip. Interesting.
So… send me a sound clip and I’ll host it.
I’ll send you a clip of my “mark II” while you’re at it ![]()

Seems to me I DID ask for a sound clip…or does chat not count? ![]()

We have one in Australia Loren, it’s called our Queen. I don’t think George double yu quite rises to the occasion.
Perhaps the correspondent was refering to the use of a RULE to effect measurements of a linear type.
I didn’t ask for a sound file because I don’t think it’s fair to judge a whistle by one. I need to hear it played live, preferably by me, to see how I like the sound. The interest in the appearance is mostly because so many of us don’t like the appearance of Sweet whistles. Personally, I like the look of the blackwood whistle with the silver rings, but the others are too “folky” looking for me.
I hope this new whistle is a winner. Ralph has certainly paid his dues over the years.
And Ty, you still haven’t answered my question about Walt and his Swiss piccolo.
I would really love to hear a sound clip of it. Can you put one on Clips-n-Snips?
(edited to add the suggestion of adding it to ClipsNsnips specifically) ![]()

Tyghress, thanks for posting the pictures of the new Sweet whistle.
I like the curves on the whistle – I think it adds character. IMO, most whistles are pretty boring to look at because their lines are so simple; but the curves add something (like Andrea Corr with a bigger chest).
Anyway, I would love to hear a sound clip. I know its a poor way to hear a whistle but for people like me (in the middle of nowhere) its all we have.
Thanks again for the pictures ![]()

We here in America are quite familiar with Rulers, and that’s why we don’t fly the Union Jack, thank God! As far as George W., although I didn’t vote for him, he’s doing one helluva great job since 9/11, despite what all you mambsy-pambsy people outside of the USA think…as if it’s any of your business!!! ![]()
Besides, your sniping at Loren was totally out of line.

Beth still rules in Oz ? For Halloween, this sounds like Project Blair’s Witch ![]()
Then beware of the naughty subversive cultural influence from here (trad, Ireland…) : Eire got riddance of her even before she was born. Yo, that long ago.
Anyway, this makes one ruler who beats Junior for being the leader with the least votes. This being of some business to us, too. No, not US–er, I mean not only you but we like the rest of the world except you, US. Small us, in short! We feel like a bit in the same boat, y’know, like we pay a sizeable (seized?) part of the bills, get our share of the victims… Australians too, if you read the Foreign page.
LizBb rules!

Huh, and here I thought I was the one being sniped. .

Great job or not, since he’s doing what he is doing outside the USA, I’d definitely say it is the business of people outside the USA. ![]()
Besides, that new Sweet whistle still looks like a friggin’ recorder. ![]()

I like the way it looks – it would be really spanky in African Blackwood with silver trim rings
Anyone got a sound clip? Ralph, do you think you could post a link to sound clip or maybe put a clip on tinwhistletunes.com (formerly clips and snips)? I really want to hear what this thing sounds like.
You know, when I think of the “traditional” shape of whistles I think of three basic styles: plastic-head Generation style , a Clarke/Shaw type, or a straight-walled wooden style like Rose or Abell. Yet, in terms of “traditional”, I wonder if any of these impressions is actually correct? Obviously, the plastic head with metal tube body is a relatively new design and we know that the Clarke/Shaw design dates back to about 1840. But, wooden whistles were around for centuries before metal one ones so what did they look like? Has anyone on the board actually seen a really old (pre-1840) wooden whistle? If so, what did they look like? I mean, where they slim and straight like most modern wooden whistles (e.g., Rose, Abell, etc. or did they look more curvy and ornate (i.e., recordish) like the Sweet whistles?
I’ll have to side with the Europeans and
Aussie’s on the George, Jr. issue as what he can
and might do can well effect us all. For better
and maybe for much worse. We here in the
US need to reconsider acting unilatterly and
respect other opinions here and abroad. Back
on topic the " it looks like a recorder " I think is
a lot of crap. I’ve seen dozens of different
recorders and it doesn’t look like any of
them. Pray tell, what recorder does it look
like? It look’s like Ralph’s new whistle
and you can like the looks or not but I
“suggest” some of you work on your recorder
“phobia”.

…waiting for Loren to become offensive again…
I would also like to know what is wrong with recorders. Why do people here like to bash this instrument? It is similar in function to the tinwhistle, but it is not really competing with the whistle for popularity in Irish music.
If I played the Ukulele, would I be expected to look down on the guitar, with its wider range of musical exposure and its broader possibilities for playing? Should we start denigrating the concert flute because we are so sure the Irish flute is so much better?
It is a different instrument, people. What’s wrong with that? What is so threatening about it? Why is it bad for me to like how it looks or to like a whistle that looks similar to a recorder? There’s got to be some answer other than “I don’t like the sound.” Heck, that’s me with every Generation D I have tried, so far.

Yeah to Queen’s and Presidents!
It’s great having one of each, let me tell you!
I would just like to say that this Saturday I am playing a concert with a recorder and low whistle!
So in your face recorder haters (whoever you are. I really can’t tell!)
I bash recorders fairly frequently too
Nico The wierdo who hates what he plays and plays what he hates Moreno
I hope nobody is offended by that last post.
I was intended to be ironic not insulting!
