Hey Mike Kellner. Someone suggested I should dull the edge of the fipple blade on my wide bore. I did…just a little. Oh what a difference! It took out that “edge” that hurt my nerves and drove my dog away. It also reduced the volume. But I can play it and ENJOY it now. Maybe it’s time for a Susato WBDB whistle.
Oops, sorry. I should say Mike Kelhorn. Mike Kellner is a personal acquaintance.

what does “WBDB” stand for? Wide Bore Dull Blade?

In your sig…what note is OOOXXX?

OOOXXX is C#, three of them, but the last one–put in some ear plugs. . . huh? JP
you got it Ava, on the WBDB. C# is right. An Irish buddy of mine was taught this in school because the kids would drop the things otherwise.
I find I use OOOXXX a lot for both C sharps. The fingering tends to make the slide from C sharp to D very smooth sounding…At times I will even play B with the fingering XOOXXX for the same reason. On both the C sharp and B, the timbre is slightly different than when using standard open right hand fingering - but the difference is in no way a negative. On some of my instruments, the covered right hand fingering is actually preferable. Just my .02…
Cheers.
