Susato VSB E whistle

Well, folks, a new 2-piece Susato VSB whistle in the key of high E just arrived at my door, and I’ve got to say, it’s just fine. You can go all the way up 2 octaves without getting that nasty shriek that made me move up to a Burke soprano D. Those of you who are okay with the Susato sound and don’t want to spend a zillion bucks on a whistle can proceed without fear.

I would appreciate it if you would bring it to the Harp session tomorrow night Jon (assuming you are going). I would love to take it for a test drive. I have been quite curious about the VSB line.

Cheers,
David

Let me add that you can hit the high notes cleanly without suffering lung collapse. Also, I got a sopranino thumbrest which fits very nicely onto my Burke.

While my earlier review was based on a comparison between the standard bore soprano D and the new VSB soprano D, I also have a VSB soprano E.
At long last, I can finally play along with the old Dubliners songs in the key of E… if I can just get my speed up to par.

I also have a VSB in E. I just bought the E, F and G Dublin non-tunable in all black. The Susato site doesn’t say you can get them in black, but I emailed Mike about it, and he said they are available. These are great little whistles. The G isn’t shrill, and it sounds nice, not as edgy as my Gen. high G. But, the Gen. doesn’t sound that good, anyway. For the price they’re asking, these VSB whistles are a good buy.
