For 6 years I’ve been the regular owner of 4 to 5 Clarkes, but about 2 years ago I came down with WHOA. Imagine my surprise! I bought a Dixon soprano D and love it, and now I’m looking into Susatos.
My question is this: for a soprano D or C, do you recommend small bore or very small bore? I’m looking for a warm, full, focused sound – not thin or overly breathy or “tinny.” If anyone has played a plastic Yamaha fife before (or a modern flute, for that matter), you know what I mean.
General consensus is that the C tends to be a better whistle than the D, with less shrill upper notes and a smoother transition from bottom to top. (Both in VSB.)

I just looked at http://www.susato.com/ again: There is no VSB C. You can get Eb & D in either VSB or SB, but C only SB. Or am I missing something?
Hmmm, that kind of begs the question. If you are going to be a bore, is it better to be a small bore or a very small bore? Enquiring minds want to know…
