I was just on the Whistle Shop webpage and I noticed they have the new Susato Dublins…Can someone tell me the difference between that whistle and a Susato Kildare? Do you like theses whistles? They have a new VSB= Very small bore whistle has anyone tried this? Any help would be appreciated… ![]()
The Kildare is two-piece (tunable), and the Dublin in one-piece. I have played the small bore D version of both models and could tell no difference in tone or playability. The VSB Kildare in D is one of the best-playing of all my whistles. The tone is very pure (no chiff/breathiness) but slightly thin and reedy.
I have Kildare models only. I have the smallest (sopranino G) in VSB down to D in VSB, and also E-flat down to B-flat in SB, thus overlapping D and E-flat in two different bores. The sound is quieter (but still loud by whistle standards) in the VSB and the whistle is thin, almost feeling like a pencil compared with the SB. The low end of the VSB is ever so slightly unstable. The SB is my favorite. Huge, clear sound, great responsiveness, etc. Hard to believe it’s plastic!
If I were only getting one I would get the SB.
The two-piece deal allows for a bit of tuning, and it makes it economical to buy one head and several bodies (that sounds morbid, eh?).
One other thing in Susato’s favor: I’ve spent a lot of time on the phone with the owner, George Kelischek, and he’s a real character (very opinionated) but extremely knowledgeable and he will not rest until you are happy with your instrument. So I’m a fan…
Wow, That is exactly what I was looking for!!! Well it looks like I might have to get both sb and vsb…

I really aprreciate the help..I am still very much a novice and itching to buy another whistle, I don’t know why I just doooooooooooooooo.
Is that a bad thing.
And they are extremely durable.
Mine were run over on the highway by many big trucks and cars yet didn’t break.
