I find it a sad thing to have to report to you that one of the major participants in the Louisa May Alcott Arts Center has chosen to move shop to another site. Alcott is a wonderful endeavor, and I want them to succeed - very much so.
LMAAC is a 501C3 nonprofit, and has no regular source of income. They are in need of an “angel”, or, barring that, some more community help.
You here at C&F helped so much the last time I asked - maybe I can give you another temptation to help again – I am raffling off a brand new SunSinger whistle, key of alto A (sop D secondary!) with a retail value of $125, and will include shipping for free, anywhere in the world, to the winner.
Between now and 11:29PM CDT May 31, 2004, go to my website and just click the “Donate to L.M. Alcott Arts Foundation” link at the top of the page. You don’t have to buy anything - just donate $10USD, and your name will be entered in the drawing (be sure to tell Alcott who you are!). Donate more, and for every additional $10, you will get another chance.
Bless you all, and best of luck on winning the whistle. The drawing will be held on June 1 by an independent, non-participating person, and the winner will be announced here same day.
Wow! So far, good response! I forgot to mention that I’ll make the whistle especially for you, in whatever color you want, or solid brass and copper, if you prefer.
Thanks to all who have entered! And if you’re in the greater Kansas City area, I will be teaching a beginning whistle and bodhran class at Alcott beginning in June - dates TBA. Just email me and let me know you’re interested, and I’ll keep you informed.
This Saturday late afternoon and Sunday all day, I will be working at Alcott, constructing a recording studio there, using materials donated by Casebier Commercial Construction, and others. I would love to have some help on Sunday - have plenty for Saturday (people seem to be fascinated by roto-hammers). All the heavy lifting is done, so it’ll be mostly fabrication of frames for acoustical tile, and stuff like that. If you’re in the greater Kansas City area, or just passin’ through, please feel free to contact me by email and get directions. If you bring a whistle or other instruments, we can jam afterward! I’ll provide the beer and wine, and it’ll be great! If you have some frame construction experience, it’ll be even greater!
Hoping to see you there!
Cheers,

WooHoo! And a huge vote of THANKS to Steven, Crystal, and Cathy, who saw my plea online, and showed up to help! We got a bunch done! Still about 60 hours left to get the room sound-tight, so we’re working again next weekend, and all within reasonable driving distance are most welcome. Just email me for directions, times, etc… again, THANKS!
The raffle is doing well, and I give all who are donating another big vote of THANKS, both from me, personally, and from the Center .. I did forget to tell you that you can just click my WWW link to get to the page where you donate to Alcott. – only 2 weeks to go, and somebody will be the winner of a lurvly SunSinger!
Whistle People are Wonderful People!
Thanks, yet again!

You have all been so good… It is really gratifying that so many of you are generous in your help to a facility that you’ll likely never use, yourselves, but you’re helping to keep alive for others… I am humbled by your generosity.
This is the last “bump” message, and I will be announcing the winner of the raffle on the 1st of June. I guess it would be well for me to mention that in addition to being able to choose color of your SunSinger, you can also choose the key of it. I tend to favor A because it kicks into D as secondary, and both are decent singing keys. But, hey, winner, this will be your baby, so you get to pick both!
I note there have been a couple of recent positive reviews of the SunSinger, so you’re getting a whistle that’s liked by some pretty astute whistlers.
Good luck in the draw! Click my WWW link to contribute to Alcott, and maybe win that SunSinger you didn’t know you always wanted, but you’ll certainly love!
Cheers,
Bill Whedon
