Hey Dubhlinn, does that location of yours mean we’re only about 20 miles apart?
Sure does my friend.
Wonder if it is a board record…?
Doubt it somehow.

You’re both just down the road from Swindon, on the outskirts of Edinburgh!! ![]()
Oh no. This means that another Chiffer might drop by at a Louth session and tell everyone else on the board how crap I am at playing.

I think you will be safe enough over there.
Being a shift worker, I rarely venture far afield. It’s a case of being up very early or getting home to late to go anywhere.
I attended a wedding in Louth some years ago, lovely Church, and a reception in the Village Hall. Don’t remember much about the reception though. Things were running late and a few of us found the nearest pub…,

PS. I’m sure you are undervaluing your whistle playing.I recall something on Clips and Snips…

I thought this thread was going to be one of those jokes about sunshine in England. You know what I mean—most UFO sightings in Birmingham turn out to be the sun.
A Native of these parts once or twice told me that Sunny Scunny is a nationally known nickname for Scunthorpe because of how seldom it rains here.Something to do with being between two rivers, the Confluence I think he calls it.
Apparently, there are plenty of records to support this claim. To be honest, the weather here seems very similar to Dublin, both places being about the same latitude - or is it longtitude.Left to right on a map anyway.
Guinness’s Brewery smells better than Scunny Steelworks though…

It must be accidental that Dubh, so obviously a gentleman, lives in a town which has an extremely naughty word embedded in its name… ![]()
There are a few stories floating about on the Net concerning people having great difficulty with searches etc. over this very matter.
Though why anybody would want to search for this place is beyond me…!
The name comes from some Viking guy.

I am a naive and exceptionally stupid woman, I get confused easily and often matron is too drunk to give me my medication on time (ha ha) but I thought that ‘Sunny Scunny’ and the pseudonym ‘Dublinn’. reffered to a displaced Irish person living in Scunthorpe. Now correct me if I am wrong, but please tell me if I am right, because then they will let me advance to the Times Cryptic Crossword, and I will feel that my life has not been in vain.

I think you’ve got it right, if residing in Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire can be considered “living.”
Oh, good grief, there’s no need for psychotropics. Can’t you see she’s had enough?
There, there, dear, you’re quite right, so here’s a nice crossword for you. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/section/0,,252,00.html
Later, if you work the crossword quickly, we’ll give Matron a swift kick for you.
Oh, thank God, for a minute there I thought I was going totally mad!
To celebrate I am going to eat this cushion embroidered with the logo ‘Chiff and Fipple Message Board, you know it makes sense’.
