Boy, that is really interesting getting to see B&W and color right together. I’d be hard pressed to pick a favorite. Certain lines seem stronger in the black and white, I’m seeing different things. But that yellow in the color photo just glows. I don’t think I can give up that glow, when I get right down to it. But I’m glad I don’t have to choose! Thanks for putting up that B&W one too.
No way. If you are going somewhere, you need to know how bad you are going to get bit if you don’t wear repellent. We have something here I call “biting flies”. They don’t take a piece of flesh out of you and I think they are about the size of house flies. But it does smart when they bite. If you are trying to paint the house or garden, they can be a real drag. So you have to spray yourself. I’ve been in a canoe with a few of these. They can be very hard to ditch. You are going to be really miserable if you don’t have bug spray on. You cannot be wildly swatting away at flies in a tippy canoe! Dragonflies are beautiful and harmless. So if a place only had dragonflies you wouldn’t need your repellent at all.
Horse flies are so big you can hear them coming. Around here, you’re more likely to find yourself feeding a deer fly:

My daughter got bit by a horsefly when she was 4. It was huge and left an enormous bruising welt on her shoulders. She screamed bloody murder.
